The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has pleaded guilty to damaging a registered Aboriginal heritage site, known as Mulyinyu Rockhole, while council workers were clearing a fire break last year.

Council workers in Western Australia's Goldfields damaged a registered Aboriginal heritage site while clearing a fire break.The City faces potential fines of up to $50,000 and will be sentenced in the Kalgoorlie Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

The council was charged with excavating, destroying, damaging, concealing or in any way altering an Aboriginal site. Ms Allen told the court the Mulyinyu Rockhole was culturally sensitive because it was part of mythology for the traditional owners' dreaming narrative as a water source. Mr Walker said the council had cooperated during the investigation and made full admissions to take "full responsibility" for its actions.He said the City had taken steps to change its internal processes and ensure staff undergo regular training regarding Aboriginal heritage sites.Potential fines of up to $50,000
