The City of Johannesburg Council reportedly approved a proposal to spend over R3 million a month on protection services for office bearers.
The City of Johannesburg says there has been no additional budget or diversion of resources to fund the protection services.that the metro municipality is splurging on VIP protection despite financial woes and declining revenue.reported that the reason for the new VIP allocations was the shooting of council Chief Whip Sithembiso Zungu.
In response, the City of Johannesburg confirmed that providing protection services to its top officials is not new. Ndamase said the policy stipulates that protection services are offered on an ad-hoc basis, based on a risk assessment conducted by either the State Security Agency or the South African Police Service .
