11:31 PM EDT May 25, 2024Last summer, Jacksonville city pools were plagued with maintenance and staffing issues. Now, they are backagain this summer, which is a relief for families looking to cool off because nothing says summer like a splash.

Those are Carmen-Owens Jr.’s two favorite things to do at the pool. His parents are happy to let him splash and play with water guns all summer long. The Carmen-Owens family intends to be regulars at the Woodland-Acres pool this summer – something they couldn’t do last year.due to maintenance and staffing issues.

That million dollars came from Mayor Donna Deegan’s $25 million initiatives plan, along with $250,000 to recruit more lifeguards and pay them more.
