26 at 12 p.m. Residents seeking refuge are encouraged to bring essential items such as medication, clothing, and personal supplies. The department has six tandem trucks equipped with spreader boxes, 450 tons of chat rock, eight trucks loaded with de-icing agent, 8,700 gallons of liquid de-icing agent, 8,000 tons of fine grade stone for residential areas, and 400 barricades prepared for deployment. Additionally, 130 BCPW employees are on standby. County parks staff will monitor entrances and exits for ice, closing them if necessary. Restrooms will be closed, and water will be turned off during the freeze. Park reservations have been rescheduled. The Facilities Department will be on call 24/7 to handle any emergencies in county buildings, including juvenile and adult detention facilities. Precautionary measures include boiler and generator checks, de-icing entryways, and monitoring parking garages for individuals seeking shelter. The Economic Community Development Department is distributing 238 survival kits to the unsheltered population in unincorporated Bexar County and suburban cities. The City’s Community Connections Hotline will operate 24 hours starting at 8 a.m. Saturday to assist unhoused residents, providing information on available shelters and resources, including transportation and cold-weather supplies. Partners such as Haven for Hope, Salvation Army, Communities Under the Bridge, Corazon San Antonio, and New Direction Church will offer temporary overnight shelter space, welcoming pets at all locations. All county offices and services will continue as usual, with updates posted online at www.bexar.org and shared via social media and local news.
