The New York City Council is set to propose a suite of bills this week that would ban fur sales and create a new city department focused on animal welfare
The City Council is set to propose a suite of bills this week that would ban fur sales and create a new city department focused on animal welfare.
The de Blasio administration is currently considering rule changes that would prohibit the feeding of squirrels and pigeons in city parks. “There are hundreds of fur businesses in New York City including more than 100 family-owned fur businesses in Speaker Johnson’s district,” Nancy Daigneault, spokesperson for FurNYC, said in a statement. “His bill will shutter a thriving industry with good-paying middle-class jobs for more than 1,000 New York City residents.”
