Austin City Council Member Mackenzie Kelly announced the Community Emergency Response Team Course where attendees will learn a variety of disaster response skills.
The course includes three sessions and will be taught by Kelly, who is a certified CERT Master Instructor, and co-instructor Nolan Screen. Other public safety guest instructors will also join them to ensure the course’s instruction aligns with national standards. The sessions are being held on June 21 from 3 to 7 p.m., June 22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and June 23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Jollyville Fire Department.
"Being an advocate for preparing the community with essential skills in disaster response is the key to building resilience in the face of adversity,” Kelly said in a press release. “By equipping individuals with the necessary tools and knowledge, we empower our community to stand strong and united in times of crisis.”
The Federal Emergency Management Agency facilitates the course through the Emergency Management Institute.
