The number of black and Latino students receiving admissions offers at the New York City’s specialized high schools remains low, according to offer letters sent out to students by the city’s Department of Education on Monday

There were 2,450 offers for Asian students and 1,368 for white students. This year, 27,521 eighth graders took the test.

Roughly 2,300 eighth graders participated in the DREAM program, a free after-school program to prepare students for the specialized high school admissions test, compared to about 1,800 in 2018. DREAM participants made up 10 percent of black and Latino testers but 29 percent of black and Latino offers, the city education department said.

At Brooklyn Technical High School, 95 black students and 117 Latino students received offers, compared to 884 Asian students and 573 white students. Last year, 935 Asian students, 87 black students, 137 Latino students and 567 white students received offers.
