1. Overwhelming majority of respondents rate the city as an excellent or good place to live
Over 90% of respondents rated McKinney as an excellent or good place to live, with survey results pointing to economic health, feelings of safety, and quality of parks and recreation opportunities as community strengths and top priorities.Even so, ratings for the overall quality of the transportation system and residents’ connection and engagement with their community fell short, with only 41% and 61% of respondents, respectively, pointing to good or excellent satisfaction in these areas.
When asked about property crime and violent crime, over 80% of residents said they feel safe from such issues, a percentage that aligns with the national benchmark. Over 80% of respondents also rated police services as excellent or good, with 94% pointing to excellent or good fire services.
Garbage collection, sewer services and storm water management received strong ratings, and while ratings for utility billing, power utility and overall utility infrastructure declined since the previous survey, all remained on par with national averages.
The most significant decline in rating within the facet of community design was seen in the availability of affordable quality housing, which experienced a drop of 14 percentage points from 49% in 2021 to 35% in 2023..
