The department is investigating an arrest caught on video that appears to show an officer striking a man in the face.
The department is investigating after the video appeared to show an officer striking a man in the face. The struggle happened during a July 1 arrest.“The video is atrocious. It’s morally repugnant. It’s completely out of norm,” one woman said during public comment at the Akron Citizens Police Oversight Board meeting Wednesday.
One use-of-force expert told News 5 that the officers' actions in the video were not excessive, but some online and at the Wednesday evening meeting disagreed. “It’s kind of peeling off the scab to the hurt that our community feels already,” Board Chair Kemp Boyd said. “Even if they did follow the training, does training need to change? That’s always going to be our question, really looking at the policies and procedures,” he said.
