From old Hollywood classics like 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' and 'Rebel Without a Cause' to '80s favorites such as 'Die Hard' and 'Moonstruck,' Cinema at the Square will feature films July 25-Aug. 11.
Updated: Jul. 03, 2024, 10:29 a.m.Located at 1615 Euclid Ave., the Connor Palace originally opened as a theater for vaudeville acts in 1922.CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Before the Connor Palace hosted big touring Broadway shows, it was one of the city’s premier movie palaces. The theater will return to those roots for three weekends this summer with Cinema at the Square. Running July 25-Aug. 11, the film series features 15 classic movies on the theater’s big screen.
The lineup includes something for everyone, from old Hollywood favorites like “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” “Some Like It Hot,” “The Philadelphia Story” and “Rebel Without a Cause” to 1980s gems such as “Die Hard,” “Moonstruck,” and “Hairspray.” The ‘90s are well-represented, too, with “The Mask,” “Ever After,” “10 Things I Hate About You” and “The Parent Trap.” There are also films for families like ”Mary Poppins” and “The Iron Giant.
Movies will be presented in their original 35-mm format and accompanied by music on Playhouse Square’s restored 1928 Kimball organ. Concession stands will serve classic movie theater fare to complete the nostalgic experience.or by phone at 216-641-6000.
