The Cincinnati Zoo on Monday released video of one its newest residents, a 4-week-old cheetah cub.
The zoo caring for the cub what after it was born at Wildlife Safari in Oregon, according to a news release.
The cub requires special care because it was born a single and the mother would not be able to produce enough milk for it to survive, zoo officials say. “Knowing that the cub would need to be hand reared, the cheetah Species Survival Plan identified Cincinnati Zoo as the best place for this cub to be raised,” the release says. When the cheetah is old enough, it will become part of the zoo’s Cheetah Encounter.
Cheetahs typically grow to about 26 to 37 inches tall at the shoulder and can be as long as 5 feet. They can weigh up to 160 pounds. Cheetahs, which are native to Africa and Iran, are considered endangered.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
