CINCINNATI - Shortstop Elly De La Cruz has been the focus of attention from Cincinnati Reds fans this season -- for both the good and the bad. It was the former on Monday when the 22-year-old made Major League Baseball history. EDLC hit his first homer of the season in the fifth inning, taking Milwaukee Brewers starter JB Bukauskas 450 feet to the batter's eye in center field, the fourth-longest of the baseball season. The ball had an exit velocity of 112.3 miles per hour.
Then in the seventh inning De La Cruz hit a line drive that centerfielder Sal Frelick missed on a diving attempt. The ball rolled toward the wall and EDLC ran all the way around the bases in 14.96 seconds for an inside-the-park homer., he is the first MLB player to hit a home run from both sides of the plate with an over-the-fence homer and an inside-the-park homer, along with four runs scored and a stolen base in the same game.
