A local family honored their mother’s battle with cancer by giving out free care packages.Mother’s Day now has a different meaning for the Sunday family. The family said she always had her chemo bag to make things easier.
"She didn't receive it from anybody. She got a bag, a tote that she had herself, and she made up her own bag. And she just put what she loved in it. She had a lot of candy in her bag," said Amy Sunday, daughter and co-organizer.They fill them with goodies approved by Teri."They're there for hours, all day, sometimes 3, 4, 5, 6 hours," she said.Amy said they made 12 the first year they put them together, then 24, and this year, the goal is 36.
"She still worked. She would still call all of us. 'How are you doing?' And it's like, no, 'How are you doing,'" said Amy.They drop off the bags on the anniversary of Teri's passing. She said it's not easy celebrating Mother's Day, but they turned their sadness into hope for others. "Even if it's for a second to brighten somebody's day in that chair where my mother once sat, then our mission is accomplished," said Amy.
