Chuck Blount, who won a loyal readership with his stories on barbecue, restaurants and drinks, died Thursday after a brief illness.
huck Blount, a longtime San Antonio Express-News journalist who won a loyal readership with his barbecue pit master skills and his stories about local restaurants and bars, died Thursday at a local hospital after a short illness. He was 47.
Charles Rodney Blount was born in Iowa on Feb. 13, 1976. He grew up in the small town of Belle Plaine, where he played high school football and became captain of the team. He played quarterback, as well as defense. Blount was so dedicated to the art of grilling that he and several family members built a 200-square-foot"food shack" in his back yard. The structure was decorated with old license plates and patio lights.In addition to grilling, Blount loved football, poker, practical jokes and his family and friends.
