Christopher Nolan planned to direct Jim Carrey in an unmade biopic in the 2000s, but it can still happen, and it could bring Carrey out of retirement.
Christopher Nolan could work on any number of projects after Oppenheimer, but one abandoned idea that he still wants to make could bring Jim Carrey out of retirement. Before 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog, Carrey hadn't been in a movie for six years, and following 2022's Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the reclusive actor again seemingly has little interest in returning not just to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 but to any movie at all.
Christopher Nolan Wanted Jim Carrey For An Unmade Passion Project Nolan has several unmade projects, and in the early 2000s, Nolan had written a screenplay for a Howard Hughes biopic. Hughes was many things, including a film producer, a pilot, and a business magnate, and at one point, he was one of the richest men in the world.
Christopher Nolan Still Intends On Making The Howard Hughes Biopic Thankfully, just because plans were thwarted by Scorsese's The Aviator doesn't mean that Nolan's Howard Hughes movie will be shelved forever. When speaking about the movie, Nolan revealed, "I do intend to make one day." Nolan could make back-to-back biographical epics by following Oppenheimer with his unmade Howard Hughes movie.
