A Christmas light contest in Rittman, Ohio, has taken an unexpected turn as residents report damage to their festive displays. While the cause remains unclear, suspicions fall on both animals and vandals.
It's the time of year for dazzling Christmas light displays in communities, including Rittman , where families compete in a Christmas light contest. Holly Snyder and her husband spent over a month decorating their home for the Rittman Lions Club competition. While they enjoy the festive spirit and the opportunity to admire other displays, they were recently frustrated to discover that some of their light strings had been damaged.
Snyder suspects both rodents and people could be responsible for the damage and took to social media to see if others had experienced similar issues. She noted that while some commenters initially blamed their pets, they were now questioning if it could have been human vandalism. Rob Winters, the wildlife management supervisor from Varmint Guard, examined pictures of Snyder's damaged cords and suggested that squirrel damage was possible due to multiple cut marks and gnawing marks surrounding the clean cuts. However, Winters acknowledged that it was difficult to definitively determine if a rodent was responsible for the damage to the two cords with clean cuts
