For some, it’s made the simple staples of the holiday season feel completely out of reach — gifts for the kids, a turkey, fixings to go with it. The Salvation Army’s Christmas hamper program has removed that stress for many families, the ones most in need of a helping hand, and it’s a very good thing to know we’ve aided them. So thanks to everybody who donated to Sporting Christmas this year. A lot of people did and it’s reflected in our total, which sits at more than $112,000 right now. In 2020, with COVID-19 still a relatively new phenomenon, we passed the $100,000 mark for the first time since 2014. We did it again in 2021 and now in 2022.Article contentDonations always trickle in after Christmas Eve, so we’re keeping our campaign open for a little bit longer, and we’ll do one final update in the New Year. A big and profuse thanks goes out to Debbie Fengler at the Salvation Army, who kept this flighty fellow organized throughout the campaign, processing donations and taking care of our spreadsheets.
