Archie Niles Jr., an investigator with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, testified that Kilpatrick Taylor suffered 10 stab wounds from homemade knives, or “shanks.
” He testified that Taylor suffered serious injuries, including a punctured lung that required surgery. Mobile County District Judge Zackery Moore determined that there is sufficient evidence for a grand jury to consider first-degree assault charges against four prisoners – Jeffrey Blackston, who wason St. Stephens Road in August; and Antwan Williams, who is charged with a fatal shooting in 2020 on Louise Drive.One inmate told investigators the motive was that Taylor supposedly stole something, Niles testified. But Overstreet’s lawyer, Tom Walsh, said it is not clear. “That’s the allegation,” he told FOX10 News. “I mean, we don’t know, necessarily, for sure. And neither does the detective. … That was something put forth by one inmate that was the cause of the alleged attack.” Blackston’s lawyer, Maxine Walters, said the evidence is weak beyond the victim’s statement. She said surveillance video doesn’t clearly show the attack. “From my understanding, there have been no weapons recovered and no clothing that may or may not have had blood on it,” she said. Niles testified that Taylor initially was reluctant to cooperate but then had a “change of heart” and told investigators that Blackston held him down while others stabbed him. He said Taylor picked the four defendants out of a photo lineups and added that surveillance video shows them coming and going from the victim’s cell but does not show the attack itself. “I think what they have is the victim’s statement,” Walters said. “They definitely will probably move forward with that. It doesn’t seem that they have physical evidence, and it also seems that there were witnesses there who did not make statements or did not want to share information.”UPDATE: Authorities say suspect who shot at deputies now booked
