A storm system moving north of Arizona will bring cooler temperatures to Phoenix just in time for Christmas.
Temperatures remain above average for now, but a cooldown is expected just in time for Christmas. This week will see noticeable weather changes. Midweek, a storm system moving north of Arizona will bring cooler conditions, bringing temperatures closer to normal. Morning lows will be chilly, ranging from the mid-40s to the low 50s across the Valley. These temperatures are still a few degrees above average for this time of year.
Afternoon highs, however, will drop into the mid to upper 60s by Christmas Day and remain steady for the latter half of the week. This storm system also brings festive weather to the high country with light snow chances and possible flurries on Christmas morning. Areas like the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, and parts of the Four Corners could experience a light dusting. Winds will be breezy in the north, with gusts reaching up to 25 mph in some areas. The air quality, which has been under several days of alerts and 'No Burn Days,' is expected to improve slightly this week. However, particle pollution could still be a concern for those with respiratory issues, especially in the mornings. As of December 22nd, Phoenix's average temperature for the month is 63.1 degrees, tying the all-time record for December, which was 61.3 degrees set in 1980. With above-average temperatures persisting a little longer, there is a good chance we will break that record!
