She revealed that during talks for the 2004 comedy movie, the offer initially made to her was not up to expectations. Whoopi Goldberg chipped in, suggesting whether it was a “light offer.” Applegate clarified that the offer was kind of “offensive.” Refusing to accept it at first, she added, “I said, ‘I can’t. ‘” I know my worth, and I can’t do that.” Applegate further revealed that she ultimately joined the movie thanks to Ferrell and McKay, noting that the duo was excited to have her on board and willing to take a pay cut to increase her paycheck. “They wanted me bad enough, and they said, ‘Well, we’re going to chip in,’ and thank God they did, because it was one of the best experiences of my entire life,” she explained. Applegate played Veronica Corningstone, a news anchor alongside Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy at KVWN Channel 4. The satirical comedy movie follows an anchor who enjoys the fame and success in a male-dominated news industry. However, things take an unexpected turn in his life when an ambitious female reporter enters the scene.
