A Christian man, Abdulbaqi Saeed Abdo, was released from an Egyptian prison after three years of detention for Facebook posts shared within an online group of converts from Christianity to Islam. Abdo, a Yemeni refugee, was arrested in 2021 while living in Egypt as an asylum seeker. Authorities claimed he was involved in terrorism activities, a charge ADF International, who supported his legal defense, refutes. Abdo's case remains open before State Security authorities, as charges haven't been dismissed.

Abdo’s son, Husam Baqi, criticized the fact that individuals are 'not allowed to believe and express their beliefs freely and are imprisoned or killed for their faith.
