Christian Bale looking intense in Terminator: Salvation and Daniel Radcliffe looking intense in The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins updated
Hailing from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt vets Robert Carlock and Sam Means, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins stars Radcliffe as filmmaker, Arthur Tobin, who is hired to make a documentary about Tracy Morgan's eponymous disgraced NFL player in the hopes of giving him a new legacy.
With Tobin also in the wake of a scandal on a prior film, he finds himself similarly getting the opportunity to learn and grow with his new group of subjects. In honor of the show's post-Super Bowl return, ScreenRant's Liam Crowley interviewed Sam Means, Robert Carlock, Daniel Radcliffe and Tracy Morgan to discuss The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. When asked about the inspiration behind Tobin's incident during the production of a faux Marvel movie, the creators cited both the"classic" incident involving David O. Russell during I Heart Huckabees and Christian Bale on Terminator Salvation. The creative pair also explained that this character element wasn't meant to call out any specific set incident, but more the"relatable feeling" of stress to come during filmmaking: Robert Carlock: Yeah, there's a trope. It felt like a thing as opposed to a specific one that we're referencing. But yeah, the cameras are rolling, and you have a human moment that's awful and embarrassing. Sam Means: And if that fails, a $300 million movie, you just realize you're in over your head. I'd like to think that that's a relatable feeling. Radcliffe further affirmed that he saw Tobin and his Marvel meltdown to be"an amalgamation of a few people" that he took into his performance, though the Emmy nominee has never personally"seen a director meltdown the way that Arthur does." As the pair reflected on the"few moments" that inspired the character, both Radcliffe and Morgan brought up Russell, with the latter sharing"I did a movie with him" and that"I've seen" the temper he can get during production. Bale and Russell's incidents remain two of the most infamous in Hollywood, even with 17-plus years past their occurrences. The former, as previously noted, happened on the Terminator Salvation set when Bale, known for an immersive form of method acting, was inadvertently interrupted by director of photography Shane Hurlbut and lashed out in response, with the audio of his explicit rant going viral. The years since have not only seen him defended by various colleagues, but also frequently apologize and express his regrets about the matter. While the Reggie Dinkins cast and crew cite the 2004 dramedy as the main influence from him, I Heart Huckabees is just one of numerous infamous incidents Russell has had on his productions. He and George Clooney engaged in a proper fight on the Three Kings set, with the latter indicating they had mended their relationship in the year since, while Huckabees had set videos leaked of numerous screaming bouts with star Lily Tomlin, and reports came out from American Hustle's set that he terrorized Amy Adams during production, to the point Bale had to intervene.
