Christa Williams-Yates leaves Friendswood to become Kingwood softball coach
Christa Williams-Yates led Friendswood to the high school softball playoffs in four of the past five seasons.Christa Williams-Yates, who guided Friendswood to the Class 5A softball playoffs in four of the past five seasons, has been named the head softball coach at Kingwood High School.
Friendswood finished 24-11 this year and reached the third round of the playoffs before being eliminated by Barbers Hill. Yates guided the Lady Mustangs to a 24-5 record in 2019, getting them to the regional semifinals for the first time. Joining Yates on her Kingwood staff is Christina Mata, a former head coach at Pasadena Memorial and Dawson. Yates and Mata were teammates at Dobie High School when the Lady Longhorns won a pair of state championships in the mid-1990s.
