O'Riley completed a Scottish record breaking £25million move to the Amex on Tuesday
That's according to Chris Sutton , who reckons the Denmark international is irreplaceable. O'Riley made a record breaking £25million move from the Hoops to the Seagulls on Tuesday, who put their money where their mouth is to land the midfielder after several failed bids from Atalanta and Southampton. Brighton take on Crawley Town in the EFL Cup tonight, although it's maybe more likely that O'Riley makes his debut away to Arsenal in the lunchtime kick-off this Saturday.
Sutton has hailed O'Riley for his conduct throughout the transfer window. The massive fee only adds to Celtic's already sizable transfer war chest and while he may have been far more diplomatic and polite than the fans who confronted Peter Lawwell after the 3-0nwin at St Mirren on Sunday, the message is the same: Money needs to be spent this week to get Celtic Champions League ready.
“He’s downgrading," Sutton told the Radio 5 Live Monday night Club.. "Club size, absolutely downgrading. Do you know what, though? He’s conducted himself superbly well. Hasn’t been one of those players who’s thrown his toys out of the pram demanding a move. Brilliant player for Celtic. “Celtic are going to miss him, but they have to compete in the Champions League this season and they need new signings. Is Matt O’Riley irreplaceable? I think he is. He is that good. Great signing for Brighton, though.”
