After less than a month in theaters, Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson's $53 million sci-fi flop, Mercy, is now available for American home release. The sci-fi thriller was released in theaters this past January 23 and flopped at the box office by grossing only $53 million worldwide, failing to make back its $60 million budget, in addition to being absolutely lambasted by critics.
A month later, Mercy is now available to watch at home on platforms like Prime Video and Fandango, where it is available to rent for $19.99 or buy for $24.99. For those who prefer to wait for it to be on streaming, Mercy should eventually be available for streaming on Prime Video, since it is from Amazon MGM Studios. Directed by Timur Bekmambetov , with a script written by Marco van Belle, Mercy stars Chris Pratt as a detective in the near future who is accused of murdering his wife and has 90 minutes to prove his innocence to an advanced AI judge that he once championed before it determines his own fate. Other than Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson in lead roles, the cast also includes Emmy nominee Kali Reis , Annabelle Wallis , two-time Emmy nominee Chris Sullivan , Kylie Rogers , Kenneth Choi , Rafi Gavron, Jeff Pierre, and Tom Rezvan. Mercy received bad reviews from critics, resulting in a terrible 24% Rotten Tomatoes score, who consider it a lifeless take on an awkward techno-thriller setup that confines its two leads and drags on until you're ready to give up. In ScreenRant's Mercy review, Gregory Nussen gave the film four out of 10 stars and wrote: Chris Pratt's sci-fi dystopia is a harebrained, confounding slice of swiss cheese... Timur Bekmambetov ends up endorsing the very thing he purports to critique... There is a lot of exciting, tactile action and the 3D is satisfyingly justified, but its neoconservative outlook on these burgeoning sociopolitical questions is bland, absurd, and exceedingly silly. However, general audiences have enjoyed Mercy much more than critics, indicated by its 83% Rotten Tomatoes score from that group, who consider it a high-concept whodunit for fans of tense popcorn-style entertainment that is ideally experienced in 3D.
