Phoenix Suns guard Chris Paul wishes he could watch close friend, Lakers forward LeBron James, become the NBA's all-time leading scorer in person.
. “He’s been a great player for a long time. To hit that mark, I don’t know if anybody thought we would see that happen. That’s a lot of points and that’s a big number. The thing about LeBron, he can go a few more years. I think it’s an unbelievable mark.”
So, Paul probably won’t witness the historic moment in person, but he recalls being on vacation with Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and James a few years ago and the four of them discussing this possibility that’s on the cusp of reality. Abdul-Jabbar said in an ESPN interview posted on Aug. 23, 2022, on YouTube he’d look to be in attendance when James broke his record.
The 7-foot-2 Abdul-Jabbar passed Wilt Chamberlain to become the all-time leading scorer on April 5, 1984, with a sky hook against the Utah Jazz in Las Vegas playing for the Lakers. The Hall of Famer played five more seasons before retiring after the 1988-89 season. At age 41, Abdul-Jabbar averaged just 10.1 points in his final NBA season.“I still try to just remain efficient,” James said. “I take the game very seriously.
