Chris Jericho told GamesHub he believes he has one to four years left in his wrestling career at age 55
, Jericho reflected on longevity in the business at age 55 and 35 years into his career, stating that he still has some time left inside the ring, though he stopped short of putting a firm number on it.
"What worries me about the guys working today is here I am at 55, 35 years in, with still some career left to go," Jericho said."I don't know if it's a year, two years, four years — I'm not sure. But I don't know how many of the guys working now will have the option to go 35 years. Hopefully all of them." He used his own injury history to make a broader point about the sustainability of modern wrestling's physical style, drawing a distinction between the emphasis on athletics today versus the charisma and character work he credits with helping him last as long as he has. "But you can already see what serious injuries do — a bad neck surgery changes everything. The longevity may be harder to sustain when there's so much emphasis on the physical at the expense of charisma and character.""I remember the first time I ever got hurt. I thought I was invincible. I was in León, Mexico, did a dive over the top rope, and the guy who was supposed to catch me — a guy called Masaka — he just stepped aside. I landed on old-school bolted-down arena chairs. I messed up my arm and I thought, 'Oh, I could actually get hurt doing this.' And if a guy doesn't want to catch you, that's even worse. After that I started getting smart about which moves were worth the risk. The guys who figure that out early are the ones who get the longevity." Jericho has been away from AEW television since announcing a break following the Dynasty pay-per-view in 2025, where he lost the ROH World Championship to Bandido. Reports circulating at the start of 2026 suggested his AEW contract had expired at the end of December, fueling months of speculation about a potentialreturn. He remains under contract with AEW to this day, with his exact status still a topic of discussion in wrestling circles. During his time away from the ring, Jericho has remained active in other areas of entertainment. He appeared in a recent episode of the TV series Tracker, playing an antagonist named Virgil Dean, and will next be seen playing himself in the upcoming film Margo's Got Money Troubles, starring Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, Nick Offerman, and Michelle Pfeiffer.News
