Chris Evans' Captain America smiling at Bucky Barnes in Avengers: Endgame
The upcoming MCU movie will be one of the final installments to close out the Multiverse Saga, as the Avengers will face their biggest threat yet with Doctor Doom. While Robert Downey Jr. will go from hero to villain as Doctor Doom, Evans will reprise his role as Steve Rogers, as confirmed by a teaser trailer in December 2025.
Now, Hemsworth breaks his silence on his co-star’s surprise return. While speaking with Gamesradar+ to promote Crime 101, he expressed that “it was pretty cool when Evans comes up on the motorbike, and because no one knew he was going to be in the film, and then there he is.” He doubled down on the moment being “cool” as the baby reveal hits even closer to Evans as he himself became a father to a baby girl last year: “I just thought it was cool. And he had a baby in real life and in Marvel life.” The first Avengers: Doomsday teaser surprisingly confirmed that Steve Rogers will feature in the new MCU movie, although the circumstances are still unclear. The footage did reveal that the original Captain America was riding his motorbike, which was followed by the reveal of his newborn baby. The second mini-trailer centered on Hemsworth’s concerned Thor, who prays to his father Odin to give him strength as he faces one more major threat. With the first two teasers focused on original Avengers members, it’s speculated that Steve and Thor are major players in their fight against Doctor Doom. The following teasers also focused on the X-Men, Wakanda, and The Fantastic Four. While Hemsworth doesn’t elaborate more on Evans’ return, their characters have a strong relationship due to being the first Avengers members and their worthiness to carry Mjölnir. However, their on-screen reunion may be complicated, considering Steve went back in time to reunite with Peggy Carter at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Despite the mystery behind Steve's return, the Russo Bros. shared with Empire Magazine that"His central role to the Avengers and the larger narrative of what the MCU has been something that’s very personal to us. We can’t see this narrative without his central role in it." This makes sense as the filmmaking duo is well-versed in depicting the super soldier's story in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War. Avengers: Doomsday’s plot details remain under wraps, although a full trailer is expected to drop sometime in the next few months. At least, for now, the teasers and other updates confirm that three of the six original stars from 2012’s Avengers will appear in the upcoming MCU installment, while Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, and Scarlett Johansson are still questionable.
