Chris Evans has opened up about leaving the MCU as CaptainAmerica. 'There are parts of it that I really, really miss, because it was a role that meant a lot to me. And I love those people... It’ll be the best ten years of my professional life...'🙌
Chris Evans has opened up about exiting the MCU and leaving the Captain America role. The actor is currently busy promoting his new film, Pixar's Lightyear, in which he plays the human character that Toy Story's Buzz Lightyear is based on. Despite this, and several other acclaimed roles since his last MCU performance in 2019 through Avengers: Endgame, the actor continues to be somewhat synonymous with Marvel after playing Steve Rogers/Captain America for almost a decade.
Endgame marked the ending of the Infinity Saga and also functioned as the swan song for some of the franchise's founding heroes. Like Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, Evans' Captain America ended his MCU story in the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed film, passing the mantle on to Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson/Falcon.
"You know, it’s different. It’s different. For ten years, you always have a movie around the corner. For ten years- it’s always, you finish one and your life is scheduled by, ‘Okay, six months, we have press. Six more months, we start up on the next movie.’ To kind of have open waters, there’s parts of it that are nice and there are parts of it that I really, really miss, because it was a role that meant a lot to me.
Evans' reflection on playing Captain America is fascinating considering that initially didn't even want the job. When Marvel Studios was looking for an actor to play Steve Rogers, they were set on bringing him in for the role, but the actor wasn't interested. He turned Marvel boss Kevin Feige and his team down multiple times, not wanting to be locked into a contract if the movies were unsuccessful.
Aside from the fact that he was praised in the role as Captain America, Evans sees the central upside of playing the MCU hero as making some now very close friends. It's no secret that the original six Avengers have a strong bond even off-camera, to the point that many of them even got matching tattoos .
