Christie made his statements after President Donald Trump announced he had tested positive for COVID-19.
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said no one wore masks while helping President Donald Trump prepare for Tuesday night's presidential debate against Joe Biden. "No one was wearing masks in the room when we were prepping the president," he told ABC's"Good Morning America," after Trump announced he and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for COVID-19.
"I was at the White House from Saturday afternoon through lunchtime on Tuesday, on and off during those days. I was tested every day I went to the White House," Christie said."The last test I took was on Tuesday morning and I was negative, and I'm going to get a test this morning to see if that status has changed. I feel fine, I don't feel any symptoms at this time, and I obviously hope it remains that way." Christie said there were about five or six people helping with debate prep, including Trump's personal lawyer, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. He added that he didn't notice any COVID-19 symptoms in Trump or his top aide Hope Hicks, who tested positive for the virus before the president did."Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19," he said on Twitter."We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!" White House physician Sean Conley confirmed the diagnoses, saying Trump and Melania Trump were"both well at this time." At Tuesday night's debate, Trump's family and aides removed their face coverings while seated in the audience. Hicks had been in contact with many White House aides, including Ivanka Trump, who was in the debate audience, in the days before she tested positive for COVID-19.
