“I respect the question, but why not us?’’ Beard said. “We’ve got good players. We've got a great university. We play in arguably the best league in the country. We won the Big 12 regular-season title. We're a good team. We've got good players. One way Texas Tech earned respect Saturday night was winning despite an off night from sophomore guard Jarrett Culver, who at one point was 1-for-8 for the floor and finished with 10 points, almost nine points below his average.
