It rallied behind Aika Robredo, eldest daughter of presidential candidate and Vice President Leni G. Robredo, against the spread online of her “manipulated and fabricated” lewd videos.
The Commission on Human Rights assailed as it warned against the “sexist and misogynistic” style of political campaigns in the country during elections.
Aika has already sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation to probe the videos, and her lawyers are preparing to file necessary criminal complaints once the perpetrators are identified. During the 2019 elections, the CHR said it called out practices that demean or objectify women and women’s bodies as objects of entertainment.
“As Gender Ombud, the Commission calls upon the different agencies of the government to address the different forms of gender-based violence and harassment perpetuated during the conduct of current election campaign,” it said.
