Staff were issued with £90 fixed penalty notices and the three shops could now face losing their alcohol licence
Shop workers in Chorley have been fined for selling booze to children and could face losing their alcohol licence following a crackdown operation.
It comes just weeks after some of the shops were also caught selling knives to underage kids. Officers from the police licensing team, Lancashire County Council Trading Standards, Chorley Council Licensing and South Ribble Borough Council Licensing visited five premises who had sold knives to children last month as part of a test purchasing operation as well as another five shops for a further test purchase, this time for alcohol.
Chorley Police said three of the 10 premises were caught selling alcohol to their underage test purchasers during the operation on Friday . Shop staff at the three premises were issued with £90 fixed penalty notices and a full inspection of the premises was completed.
"We are now looking to apply to the Local Authorities for a formal review of the Premises Licence, this could result in revocation of an alcohol licence. "We encourage any premises that sell age related products to visit the Lancashire County Council website for free training and resources on ‘check 25’. If you have any information or concerns around a Licensed Premises selling alcohol to children, please call 101, submit a report online via https://orlo.uk/z8LPK or via @Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
