The borough's population has grown by 10.5% in the last decade
Chorley is the second most at-risk part of the country for future greenbelt development, a study has claimed.
An initial consultation on a new local plan for Central Lancashire – covering Chorley and its neighbours in Preston and South Ribble – suggested that it is for employment, rather than residential, use that Chorley might need to open up its greenbelt over the next 15 years. However, any such proposal would be subject to further public consultation.
“We have made the case time and time again to government that their housebuilding figures set for Chorley are far too high and need to come down. Unsustainable development can have a real negative effect on our communities and how we go about our daily lives, the green spaces we enjoy and our environment. Ironically, the government now appear to agree with us, but still have yet to make changes in law which will make the situation better for Chorley.
