BEIJING (ANN): Barbers in China are attaching their haircutting and grooming tools to the end of long sticks to keep their distance from clients amid the Covid-19 outbreak.
He Bing, a 30-year-old stylist, recorded two of his co-workers carrying out the “long-distance haircut” at a salon in Luzhou, Sichuan on March 1, as per Newsflare via New York Post on March 3.
The barbers used three-feet-long sticks with brushes and other tools attached to the end to service their customers, as seen in a clip posted by South China Morning Post on its YouTube channel on March 4. The video shows one hairdresser using an electric razor and a comb attached on separate poles to trim a customer’s hair, while another barber uses a wide brush on a stick to shampoo another client.
Aside from keeping distance, the clients and the hairdressers also wore face masks throughout the session. According to the report, the salon’s owner thought of offering the service to help their customers feel safer during the outbreak. As the outbreak continues, the World Health Organization has advised the public to maintain a distance of at least three feet from anyone who coughs or sneezes. They also explained that one is only encouraged to wear a disposable face mask if they are showing Covid-19 symptoms.
The novel coronavirus has infected more than 90,000 people worldwide while over 3,100 have died from the disease it causes, Covid-19. Meanwhile, as of this writing, 20 people have already tested positive for the virus in the Philippines. – Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network
