An activist in Chongqing, China, staged a daring protest by projecting anti-communist slogans on a tall building. He managed to evade capture for almost an hour before being apprehended. The activist's use of surveillance footage to document the police's discovery of the projector garnered international attention.
An activist identified as Qi Hong executed a daring protest in the Chinese city of Chongqing on Friday night. Qi projected anti-communist slogans onto the side of a towering building for nearly an hour before authorities detected and disabled his display.
The slogans included messages such as “No more lies, we want the truth,” “No more slavery, we want freedom,” “Only without the Communist Party can there be a new China,” “Freedom is not a gift, it must be seized back,” and “Down with red fascism, overthrow the Communist tyranny.”Adding to the audacity of the protest, Qi uploaded surveillance camera footage of the police entering his hotel room, where the projector was located, to social media. This footage quickly went viral, garnering millions of views and generating widespread admiration for his courage and ingenuity. Qi had meticulously planned the protest days in advance. He rented a hotel room, installed the projector, and established remote-controlled access to both the projection system and security cameras. Before the scheduled time, he left China with his wife and children, taking flight to the United Kingdom. He remotely initiated the projection from his safe haven and left behind a handwritten note on a table in the hotel room for the inevitable police arrival. The note, penned with unexpected courtesy, read: “Even if you are a beneficiary of the system today, one day you will inevitably become a victim on this land, so please treat the people with kindness.” The police, upon discovering the room and lacking the presence of a projectionist, appeared somewhat comical in their attempts to locate the projector. The protest ingeniously exploited China's extensive surveillance apparatus, repurposing the very cameras meant for monitoring citizens as a medium to disseminate Qi’s anti-communist message. Chongqing, with its population of approximately 30 million, boasts an extensive network of surveillance cameras, many of which inadvertently captured Qi's messages, ensuring their dissemination far beyond his initial target audience
