Construction will begin next summer after officials secured funds through a November ballot measure

The Chinatown Public Health Center can finally make concrete plans for its largest remodeling in more than 50 years following the passage of a ballot measure earlier this month that secured the project’s necessary funds.

During the construction, patients and services at the Chinatown Public Health Center at 1490 Mason St. will be transferred to the Chinese Hospital, just a few blocks away at 845 Jackson St. Community advocates say this is the first time since the health center moved to its current location atop the Broadway Tunnel in 1971 that it has undergone wholesale refurbishments.

Your comprehensive guide to spending the holidays in San Francisco Whether you're bundling up for a block party or skating at an ice rink, The City's got plenty of events to end your year on a bright note But Le and other advocates have said repairs are desperately needed. The facility has a litany of infrastructure problems, including an outdated heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system which causes the center to frequently heat up to more than 80 degrees. Twice in 2023, the entire hospital had to completely shut down because patients' rooms were too hot.
