A man was seriously injured in an unprovoked stabbing in Seattle's Chinatown-International District, prompting calls for increased safety measures. The incident follows a series of recent violent crimes in the area, raising concerns among residents and business owners.

A man is recovering in the hospital with serious injuries after what police are calling an unprovoked attack in the Chinatown-International District . Witnesses told officers a woman approached the 22-year-old man, swung at him, and suddenly stabbed him in the lower back. She then walked away, heading south.

Local gallery owner Binko Chiong-Bisbee has spoken out after witnessing similar, devastating scenes in the Chinatown-International District and the need to protect it, but she said she feels like no one is listening. 'We can’t sustain this. Many of us are small business owners, and many of us this year have noticed in 2024 that our business has dropped off because of negative perception,' Chiong-Bisbee stated. It was just over a month ago that emergency crews rushed to this same area for a mass stabbing. Then, the metro bus service stopped near crime hotspots 12th and Jackson due to safety concerns for bus drivers and riders. Henry's Taiwan Kitchen Owner Henry Ku has plans to open a Sunday night market and is calling on the city for more safety measures to help bring back much-needed foot traffic.The mayor's office in an emailed response writes there's been an estimated 27-percent decrease in violent crime since November when the city expanded its to the CID and Little Saigon. That involves targeted police patrols and area clean-ups. 'Last night's unprovoked stabbing incident is shocking and horrific and should not occur anywhere in our city,' mayor's office spokesperson Callie Craighead stated. 'Mayor Harrell is committed to supporting the Chinatown-International District, and our administration has put forward every resource that is available to improve the safety and invest in the vibrancy of this cherished neighborhood.' Craighead noted a boosted law enforcement presence in the CID and ongoing work to enhance lighting and beautification work to help prevent crim
