China unveils 90 mph kamikaze drone threatening Taiwan with 124-mile range

Norinco, one of China's largest defense contractors, has just unveiled a new Switchblade 600-like drone with greater range and speed.

North Industries Group Corporation Limited , one of China’s biggest defense contractors, has unveiled a new long-range kamikaze drone that can theoretically reach Taiwan. The company claims that compared to the United States Switchblade 600 drone, Norinco’s drone features greater range, speed, and performance.

According to reported statistics, the new drone has a range of 124 miles , a cruising speed of 90 mph , and can stay aloft for around 105 minutes. The drone can also act as a loitering munition and hover around a potential target for some time before impact.can cruise at around 68 mph , has a maximum flight time of 40 minutes, and a range of 25 miles . However, its “attack” speed can be as much as 115 mph , and its range can be extended to 50 miles .

Norinco is not the PLA’s sole contractor, but its operations are larger than those in the United States. It employs 20,000 people and has production facilities across China. Based in Xian, the firm has helped develop the city over the last few decades with new schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure.

They also stated that these small loitering munitions could be produced at a low cost, potentially giving China an advantage in any drone arms race.Not to mention the United States’ planned defense of the island should China gamble on capturing it by force. However, the use of Chinese-made drones and parts in conflicts like Ukraine has helped bolster confidence in them around the world. United States drones are not immune to their critics either.The Wall Street Journal reported that Ukrainian forces found them “glitchy and expensive,” leading to an increased use of Chinese-made drones instead. However, China has begun to prevent the export of its drones and components to attempt to curb their military use as the conflict continues.
