China to build $1.5 billion copper smelter in Kazakhstan

The agreement was signed between KAZ Minerals Smelting and NFC as the supplier of design services and procurement of process equipment, and NFC Kazakhstan.The plant will be built near the village of Aktogay in the Abay region. The source of raw materials will be copper concentrate from the Bozshakol and Aktogay mining and processing plants of Vostoktsvetmet LLP.

“The high-tech enterprise will be the largest in the country for the production of high-value-added products,” the statement reads.
