China slams G7 statement on HK security law

China has slammed the G7 leaders' comments on a security law it is planning to introduce in Hong Kong, which has been criticised as oppressive. – EPA pic, June 18, 2020.

CHINA said today it “resolutely opposed” comments from G7 foreign ministers urging it to reconsider its proposed Hong Kong national security law. The security law would ban subversion and other perceived offences in the city, which saw major pro-democracy protests last year, and Beijing says the new law is needed to restore stability.
