China has launched a new three-person mission to complete work on its unfinished Tiangong space station.

Chinese astronauts Cai Xuzhe, Chen Dong and Liu Yang wave before a sendoff ceremony for the Shenzhou-14 crewed space mission On Sunday, three Chinese astronauts, or taikonauts, arrived at the Tiangong space station with a mission to complete assembling the station’s core module.

The three crewmembers — commander Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe — are expected to spend about six months aboard the 16.6 metre-long Tianhe space centre. One of the modules is set to launch next month while the other will follow in October. The two modules will attach to opposite sides of the Tianhe core module to create a T-shaped station that will be smaller than the International Space Station asThe crew will also perform educational outreach activities and install some new equipment inside and outside Tianhe, according to Chinese space officials.
