Chinese President Xi Jinping and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky have held peace talks during their first phone call since Russia's war began more than one year ago.

During the hour-long call on Wednesday President Xi Jinping told Zelensky that Beijing will send an envoy to Ukraine to discuss a possible"political settlement". Last month President Xi flew to Moscow for high-level talks with Putin, with the two leaders reaffirming their"deepening strategic partnership" and outlining their economic cooperation.
The document has been considered vague, with the West accusing China of using the proposal to sidestep allegations the country been a silent accomplice to Russia.
