These new submersibles will have the capacity to carry additional equipment, increasing their functionality and operational scope.
The expansion of China ’s submersible fleet is poised to significantly enhance its capabilities in both civilian and military domains. China is reportedly taking significant strides in underwater technology by expanding its fleet of coral-monitoring submersibles, with plans to develop larger models that could also serve military reconnaissance purposes.
“This year, we are preparing to carry out deep-sea applications of 800kg class ,” Professor Cao YongHe added, “We will even develop a tonne-class prototype in the future, which can carry more powerful payloads and sail farther, including … future integrated reconnaissance and strike .” According to Hao Yiwei, a researcher at Northwestern Polytechnical University, the team plans to deploy these submersibles in groups next year to maximize their benefits.
Last year, one of these submersibles successfully reached a depth of 1,000 meters , showcasing their impressive capabilities.
