PETALING JAYA: China has been Malaysia's biggest trade partner for the last 13 years straight with a record high of USD203.6bil (RM910.8bil) in 2022, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
In a post on his official Facebook account on Wednesday , Dr Wee said he had the opportunity to catch up with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangxi Committee chairman during her three-day work trip to Malaysia.
"The bilateral ties between Malaysia and China in various sectors are now back on track after Chinese borders opened fully early this year,” said Dr Wee. "It is important to maintain trade ties with China as a way to encourage the recovery of economic activities in both countries, especially in Malaysia as we are China's second biggest trade partner in ASEAN," he added.
The Ayer Hitam MP said both the Malaysian government and himself have been invited to attend the 20th China-Asean EXPO on September 16 to 19 this year.Last week, China said it will reopen its borders to foreign tourists for the first time in three years since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic by restoring the issuance of all types of visas effective March 15.
