China firm plans 10,000-satellite swarm to fight Elon Musk’s space power

Move over, Starlink; there’s a new player in town. A Chinese company plans to launch a constellation of 10,000 satellites to compete with Elon Musk’s massive Starlink project.

But now, Shanghai Lanjian Hongqing Technology Company or Hongqing Technology, associated with private rocket maker Landspace, is entering the scene with its Honghu-3 constellation.for the satellite network with the International Telecommunication Union on May 24 to deploy this constellation across 160 orbital planes.Reportedly, the Honghu constellation plan is said to be the third major initiative by Chinese entities to deploy large-scale satellite constellations in space.

Shanghai-based Hongqing Technology is known for its Hall thruster propulsion technology and plans to expand with a new satellite production site in Wuxi City. Their Jinwu-200 krypton propellant Hall effect thruster was successfully tested on the Honghu-2 satellite, which was launched in December with a Landspace Zhuque-2 rocket.

Several commercial rocket companies in China are preparing to launch satellite constellations into orbit. Apart from Landspace, Space Pioneer, Galactic Energy, iSpace, and others, are in the race to grab these launching projects.
