An elastically-delicious appetizer has taken social media by storm. Chili’s Fried Mozzarella, which was first added to the menu in mid-2022, has recently been racking up millions of views on TikTok because of customers’ astounding cheese-pulls. The cheesy appetizer is available on its own or as part of the Triple Dipper platter, along with other items like wings, egg rolls or Chicken Crispers. Compared to your average mozzarella stick, Chili’s version has a more hefty, rectangular shape.
Perhaps that’s why it’s able to pull off such an amazing feat of cheese engineering. These cheese-pull videos started really taking off in the fall, but there are some from even earlier. “I finally experienced the Chili’s mozz stick cheese pull,” wrote user @anyamahuh on a September video with more than 10 million views, adding, “it was 1000% worth it.” In October, user @kie_eats posted a crunchy ASMR video with the dish. It racked up over 14 million views. “These b------ is good,” Erik Hopkins says in a November TikTok with boyfriend Haley Jenkins in between squeals of delight. “Oh, Lord!” someone off-screen says in a TikTok showing a wide-eyed customer attempting to handle the viral appetizer. In many cases, the cheese stretches across the table and, in at least one case, across the room, without breaking. How Chili’s pulled it off (get it?) More than 81,900 videos are under the hashtag #chilis on TikTok, and a significant portion involve Chili’s bungee-like app — which has not gone unnoticed by the chain. “Once we saw the Triple Dipper going viral over the summer, we knew we had to fan the flames,” George Felix, Chili’s CMO, tells TODAY.com. This is evident on Chili’s official TikTok page, where the team has posted comedic clips, collaborations with mukbang influencers like Jelly Bean Sweets, holiday-themed videos and more.
