Chili, N.Y. (WHAM) Meet Delise Martella and Miriam Byers, members of a crochet and knitting club.
"When you start a crochet, the first row is called a chain, so we're called 'the 'chain gang,'" Byers explained.
The Chili Chain Gang meets every week at the Chili Senior Center, creating special items for family and friends, and donating some to local hospitals and shelters."We are doing a third-grader class," said Byers. "They don't know we are making the hats." A few weeks earlier, third-graders at the Renaissance Academy Charter School of the Arts in Greece were told to sketch out their ideal winter hat."It depends which hat you got, too," added Martella. "Some were complicated. So creative — these kids are so creative."Their colorful designs were brought to life.
"What a perfect event on World Kindness Day, having people come and show some kindness to our kids," said Dr. Cait Loury, the charter school's chief educational officer."Thank you for making my hat from my drawing," said student John John."I love it," said student Felicity. "It's just the same.""I think the caring is a big part of it," said Loury.
