The Queensland government will consider whether there are grounds to prosecute a Redlands childcare centre after a child was left on a bus on a hot day.

, the same day the Redlands recorded a maximum temperature of 31.1 degrees.

“I can’t comment on the specifics of this case while that investigation is underway, but the department does not hesitate to take serious action – up to and including prosecution – when providers fail to ensure children’s health and safety,” acting Education Minister Di Farmer said.Authorised officers from the department were at the centre on Monday to address any immediate risks and to begin the investigation.

“It only takes one shortcut on safety to have devastating, lifelong consequences and that’s why ‘look before you lock’ needs to be a habit, every single time,” she said. “This is the first time in 2023 an incident like this has been reported to the department, but one is one too many.campaign, and the tighter regulations we called for at a national level, are so important.”
