A 14-month-old child was safely rescued from a domestic violence situation after a standoff with law enforcement.
A 14-month-old child was rescued safely on Friday evening after a standoff between law enforcement and a suspect in a domestic violence incident, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. HCSO units were called to the 12000 block of Magnolia Leaf and found a woman in distress with her mother outside the home. They reported the woman's 14-month-old child was being held inside the home with the child's father, who threatened to harm the toddler if authorities were called.
SWAT was called to the scene while deputies with HCSO waited for an arrest warrant against the father for felony assault related to family violence. After hours, SWAT officers were able to safely remove the child from the residence around 2:20 a.m. It was confirmed the child was unharmed after being assessed by EMS. The suspect was placed into custody and taken to the Joint Processing Center for booking. He faces charges of felony assault and family violence. For those experiencing domestic violence or know someone who is, resources are available, such as the Houston Area Women's Center hotline, which operates 24/7.
